Collision Repair Stages

When done correctly, collision repair is a very detailed process. Repairs at Tom Kadlec Auto Body typically involve these steps:

1. Pre-scan & Assessment

Before any work can be done, we will assess the visual damage to your vehicle. We will also use advanced scanning tools to read the vehicle’s on-board computer systems to identify any faults or malfunctions.

2. Disassembly and Blueprint

Once the initial assessment of your vehicle’s damage is completed the vehicle will into the body shop for disassembly. At this point our technicians do what is called ‘Blueprinting,’ creating a procedure for disassembly that will allow for the discovery of damage of any hidden or internal parts.

3. Contacting Insurance

After our assessments have been completed, our staff will give you or your insurance company a complete written estimate. Also, any parts needed to make the repair will be ordered during this phase. If, during the repair process, more damage is found or more parts are needed, we will reach out to your insurance company again with a supplemental claim. This allows us to receive the funds necessary to make the repairs on that newly discovered damage.

4. Frame Repair

If your vehicle requires frame or unibody repair, the vehicle will go to our frame machine. This machine allows us to use hydraulic pressure to pull bends and twists out and gives us the ability to return the frame to its factory specification.

5. Panel Repair

Panels requiring replacement or repairs, such as dents or scratches, will have that completed during this step.

6. Paint

It is important for the look of your vehicle that the paint matches precisely. We determine your vehicle’s paint type and color by using the manufacturer’s paint code. Before painting, panels requiring paint will be sanded, cleaned and sanded again to ensure a smooth surface. We then use layers of primer, paint and clear coat to bring the panels back to their original look. Panels not requiring paint will be masked off to protect them from overspray.

7. Buff and Polish

Once the vehicle’s panels have been painted, they will get buffed and polished. This will bring out the shine that your vehicle’s paint had when it was brand new.

8. Re-assembly

Once all repairs have been finished, both internally and externally, the vehicle will be put back together. Our technicians make sure that all panels and parts are returned to the exact specifications that the manufacturer has provided.

9. Mechanical Repairs

If your vehicle requires repairs such as an alignment or calibration of safety systems (cameras, lane watch, forward collision, etc.), this will be completed by our dedicated service center.

10. Post Scan & Final Inspection

After our body shop technicians and service center have completed their repairs, we will do one final scan of the vehicle’s on-board computer system to make sure any fault codes have been remedied. We will also walk around the vehicle for one last visual assessment to make sure all of the repairs meet our standards.
